You need a soft measuring tape, a mirror, and two minutes. Wear a non-padded bra or none at all. Stand relaxed, breathe normally — and don't pull the tape tight where it should rest lightly.
Before you start
- A soft (sewing) measuring tape — not a metal one
- A thin, non-padded bra, or no bra
- A mirror, to check the tape stays level
1. Measure your underbust
Wrap the tape around your ribcage directly under your bust. It should be snug — the tape stays put when you let go — but not digging in. Check in the mirror that it's parallel to the floor front and back, exhale normally, and note the number.
Snug means: you can slide two fingers under the tape, no more.2. Measure your bust
Move the tape up to the fullest part of your bust — usually at nipple level. Here the tape rests lightly on the body without compressing anything. Keep it level, arms relaxed at your sides (ask for help or use the mirror).
If you're between two numbers, take the larger one for this measurement.3. Get your size

The band stays level
It shouldn't ride up in the back or lift when you raise your arms. If it does, the band is too big — the most common mistake.
The wire sits flat
The centre panel (gore) should rest against your sternum. If it floats away from the body, the cup is too small.
No spillage, no gap
Breast tissue shouldn't overflow the cup edge (cup too small), and the fabric shouldn't wrinkle empty (cup too big).
Straps don't carry the weight
Support comes from the band, not the straps. Straps digging into your shoulders usually mean the band is too loose.
When to re-measure
