Sister sizes of 42D
40DD and 44C hold the same cup volume as 42D with a tighter or looser band. If the band of a 42D rides up, try 40DD; if it digs in, try 44C.
Larger bands are widely produced, but the stretch of the band matters more than anywhere else in the range: fabrics that measure right but stretch loose lose their support within months. Fasten a new bra on the loosest hook and expect to tighten over its life. Cups on large bands are often cut shallow — if you get gaping with a correct band, try one cup down before changing band.

What is 42D in European sizing?
A 42D corresponds to 95D in European sizing and 110D in French/Spanish sizing. The cup volume is identical — only the band numbering changes between systems.
Is 42D big or small?
It is a larger band size, carried by most brands' extended ranges. Cup letters mean nothing alone: a cup only has a volume relative to its band, which is why 40DD and 44C hold exactly the same volume as 42D.
My 42D doesn't fit — what should I try?
If the band rides up or feels loose, go to 40DD. If the band digs in while the cup is fine, go to 44C. If the cup overflows, try one cup up in the same band; if it wrinkles empty, one cup down. Two minutes with the calculator confirms it.
